This week and next we’ll be sharing a few elopements and tiny weddings that didn’t necessarily start out that way. Thank to COVID-19 these March couples had to quickly go to Plan B and they handled it amazingly!
In this case Sadie and Josh had to switch gears when things started shutting down quickly. Thankfully they were still able to get married!
*** NOTE – All of the weddings we are featuring that were effected by COVID19 happened before any stay at home order were issued for the states they took place in. We will not share or promote weddings that violated those rules. ***
Here are a few words from their photographer, Carsyn about their day!
” What was planned as a small destination wedding in Vail, Colorado quickly turned into an intimate condo celebration thanks to COVID-19. Sadie and Josh fell in love thanks to Sadie’s dad giving Josh an engineering job and their love of Jeeps, camping, and the mountain quickly led them to their decision to be wed in Vail, Colorado. The two originally planned to get married on her parents land in Oklahoma, but after deciding that planning a wedding wasn’t how they wanted to spend their time, the plan for the Vail Destination wedding was born. The couple invited 30 of their closest friends and family to come from Oklahoma, California, and Hawaii to celebrate with them.
The week of the wedding was when the COVID-19 crisis was starting to hit the country. The couple and their parents had just made it to Vail when the Colorado ski resorts were shut down for the rest of the season. Making the best of the situation the couple decided to press on. As the days went by it was clear their original wedding plans were about to be totally derailed. All bars and restaurants were shut down and gatherings over 10 people were banned. Thats when the couple decided it was time to go ahead and do their first look, just in case something happened and they had to leave before the big day. Two days before the ceremony Josh and Sadie had their first look on a scenic bridge in Vail Village, right next to the wedding chapel. With the whole village to themselves, we were able to take photos all throughout with no one to question us! What a dream!
As fate would have it, the Thursday wedding was still able to happen, just in a much altered form! Several guests were unable to make it which left them with 20 of their closest loved ones to cheer them on. Several watched via FaceTime as Josh & Sadie said “I do” at the Vail Interfaith Chapel beautifully decorated by the Secret Garden. Afterwords the couple took photos then made their way to the lone restaurant still open, a pizza parlor serving take out. The owner graciously welcomed them in, gave toasts and pizza to help celebrate the happy couple and sent them out with the best memories. Everyone made their way back to the condo’s to have their own make shift reception. Custom coffee mugs and “Sh*t went down in Vail” Stickers gave the guests a favor to remember the crazy week by. In the end the wedding was nothing like they had planned thanks to COVID-19 but they made the absolute best out of it thanks to their wonderful friends and family.”
