Boho Elopement at Lucky Arrow Retreat: Brittany + Matt

Today on the blog we’ve got a gorgeous private elopement from Nikk Nguyen Photography who shared the following info with us about this amazing day!

“Lucky Arrow Retreat is such an amazing new venue. Brittany and Matt both got ready in the cabins at the Retreat, which gave me some wonderful opportunities to take a few great photos of them in the modern and accommodating cabins. They both looked stunning in their classy suit and dress, finished off with a beautiful bohemian bridal bouquet.

A super sweet ceremony commenced, with a stunning view as the backdrop. They literally tied a knot to signify the start of their life together. They both had written beautiful personalized vows for each other. Matt had a lot of tears throughout the ceremony, and who could blame him?

After the ceremony, we took time to capture some amazing photos of the brand-new Mr. and Mrs.! Afterwards, they sat down to eat together in a wonderfully set up picnic. The grazing table from Grazeology was unbelievable! I will definitely be getting one for myself when the time comes!

This elopement wouldn’t be complete without a first dance in the moon light, and a walk through the lantern-lit trees. I think Brittany & Matt gave the word “romantic” a whole new meaning with this wonderful elopement.”

Check out the images below as well as some Q&A from the couple and even a break down of their costs which I find super helpful for those out there planning!

HOW DID YOU MEET?

Believe it or not Matt and I met on Bumble. I gave it three shots and he was my third. He had recently moved to Houston from Birmingham and I was his first date!

WHAT IS YOUR PROPOSAL STORY?

It’s pretty hard to surprise me, I pick up on every detail. We had just moved into our new home and a week later, on Matt’s Birthday, he proposed after opening his gifts. Talk about surprised! It speaks volumes to how selfless he is.

LOCATION CHOICES

We knew we didn’t necessarily want a big wedding, however, we wanted something memorable. We decided to elope, just us, somewhere we loved. I scoured wedding sites and decided I loved the styled elopement idea. We wanted to keep the intimacy while also having others feel like they got to experience the day right along with us through our pictures. The Texas hill country was a no brainier for us. When I came across Lucky Arrow Retreat and saw that view I knew it was the spot! We wanted timeless and classy while also a bit boho and rustic. It all came together better than we could have imagined it!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR ATTIRE CHOICES.

We wanted classic meets boho. The scenery had so much texture and we didn’t want all the focus on the attire. We kept it understated and romantic.

THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU CHOSE TO SPLURGE ON OR SKIP?

The photographer was number one. I wanted Nikk and I wasn’t budging on that. Flowers were also important. I’d say those were the two “splurges”. When you are renting items you are able to pick and choose based on budgets so that makes it easy. We skipped a cake and opted for cute little local pies in the shapes of our home states. It went along with our story and we loved how different it was!

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE PARTS OF THE DAY? (MEMORIES AND STORIES)

Our favorite memory of the day was definitely the weather. Austin had a tough week of weather and our wedding day was no exception. It poured the day of our wedding. Our coordinator and florist even had trouble getting to us through high water. A few hours before, the skies cleared and the sun came out just in time for the most picture perfect ceremony and sunset. We still can’t believe it! Everything was beautiful!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS.

The most beautiful flowers I’ve ever seen. They were wild yet elegant. I wanted dusty mauves and lighter colors throughout. I loved them so much I even had them preserved!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING CAKE.

We opted for tiny pies!

DID YOU INCLUDE ANY FAMILY HEIRLOOMS OR SPECIAL TRADITIONS?

I wore my great grandmothers wedding bands on my right hand as I do everyday!

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDINGS NOW?

Our advice to couples in the planning stages would be to make sure you plan what you both want in a wedding. Big or small all that matters is the two of you. Pick one or two items you want to splurge on and let everything else come together afterward. We will say, if you can budget it in, hire a coordinator. They take all the pressure off and handle communications and setups. It’s worth the extra cost!

WHAT WAS YOUR FINAL WEDDING BUDGET TOTAL? PLEASE PROVIDE AN ITEMIZED LIST OF HOW YOU SPENT THAT BUDGET.

The wedding was just us, our photographer, coordinator, and officiant. A rough estimate of our costs would be around $7000.

Venue: $800

Photographer: $2000

Coordinator: $900

Rentals: $750

Flowers: $600

Officiant: $250

Hair/Makeup: $250

Attire: $1350
