The moment I saw this tiny wedding in New Orleans I love it. Anytime I see something a little different where the couple has embraced their own styles, added touches of their personality or just done something different I want to share it!
Shannon and Chris chose The Elms Mansion in New Orleans for their wedding day. It was the perfect fit for them and their handful of guests. A ceremony outside and back in for photos of the amazing venue and cake for everyone!
Here are a few words from their photographer Therese about the couple and their wedding day!
“Chris and Shannon met at a New Year’s eve party her cousin was throwing in Pennsylvania in 2014. She was living in PA at the time and currently in a unhappy relationship with someone else. Chris was living in Florida and drove up on whim to go to the party. He and her cousin’s husband had been good friends for years. Her cousin, unbeknown to her, had been talking to Chris about her for quite some time. She had always thought Chris and Shannon would hit it off. Shannon got to the party, sat down across from Chris and they immediately started talking.
A few months later the relationship she was in ended. Her cousin passed along her phone number to Chris. They started texting each other immediately and were both in love right from that moment. Shannon planned a trip to Florida to spend time with Chris and ended up staying forever and moved from PA.
They are best friends and share a love of music, traveling, good drinks, and meeting new people wherever they venture to. Chris proposed on Shannon’s birthday on July 29, 2017 in St. Augustine Florida. He planned a weekend away for them and they took a late night walk on the dock. Shannon said the evening couldn’t have been more perfect and Chris replied what if I asked you to marry me? She turned around and he was on his knee
They settled on New Orleans for the wedding destination because they wanted a small destination wedding, that wouldn’t require a lot of planning and would be full of adventure. The Elms Mansion was perfect for them because they loved the history and somewhat slightly creepy décor of the house. They are a very non-traditional couple. She actually looked for a black dress but ended up falling in love with the feathers on the dress she chose, and went for as many black details as she could (shoes, birdcage, belt, etc). She chose deep red flowers, almost black even to keep the ultra moody feel to the wedding. ‘We are extremely happy with how everything turned out and couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else but New Orleans.'”
