From their photographer Tatiana :
“When a couple’s entire love story has been filled with adventure, it’s only fitting that their wedding day is adventurous too! Marya and David’s love story began at work where they were both employed at a tech startup. David as a software developer and Marya as a user experience designer. However, it wasn’t until about a year of working together that they truly connected. One day, over the company ping-pong table, David mentioned that he was into paragliding and invited Marya to try it out. Because paragliding can only happen when the weather conditions are perfect, their first few glides kept getting cancelled last minute and David and Marya would end up going somewhere else to hang out. The conditions may not have been perfect for paragliding, but they were perfect for something else. Deepening a friendship that soon developed into romance. Oh, and if you’re wondering, they did get to go paragliding eventually!
Last summer on a huge travel adventure that took them to Thailand and Bali, David popped the question. One night in Bali, he surprised Marya with a spa experience followed by a romantic dinner for two looking over the rice fields in Ubud. During the dinner, the electricity went out so the two were left drinking wine in the dark for more than an hour, alone in the middle of a rice field! When the power finally came back on, dinner was served, and a helpful waiter kept offering to take photos for them… and that’s when he asked and, of course, she said yes.
If they didn’t yet know from their many rescheduled paraglides or their dinner in the dark, Marya and David once again learned that sometimes life doesn’t go to plan. Like so many couples this year, the global pandemic meant re-thinking their wedding plans, but the result couldn’t have been any more magical.
Their intimate Whistler Helicopter Elopement included just their closest family members: Marya’s grandmother, mother and little sister. And we can’t forget their cat! You don’t often see cats as part of a wedding ceremony, but this adorable special guest was a very important part of their Whistler Helicopter Elopement.
The couple and their guests got ready in the beautiful Nita Lake Lodge and had an intimate and emotional wedding ceremony in Whistler, overlooking the water. Then, they were whisked away by helicopter for a mountaintop adventure photo session. It was breathtaking! We took advantage of two helicopter landings: the first at the glacier and the second beside a secluded alpine lake. From Marya’s incredible flowing gown to the stunning alpine views, plus the fact that Marya and David were so easygoing and happy… We couldn’t have asked for a better day!”
